Speaker: Mona Patel

Talk Summary

You know the story all too well; you understand usability, but find it difficult to convince others of the value of conducting usability research or following a user-centered design methodology. Mona Patel, an Executive Director at Human Factors International, Inc., will discuss how to negotiate the acceptance of usability with audiences as diverse as marketing, development, business, and even legal departments.

In addition to covering topics such as Return on Investment and strategic positioning of usability, Mona will show concrete examples of formats for delivering usability assessment results based on proven negotiation techniques that will increase your power in a decision setting. She will relate actual situations where these techniques made the difference in the acceptance of a user-centered solution. Through an interactive presentation, you'll learn how use of effective negotiation techniques can lead to a more optimal solution when selling usability to management.
