Talk Summary

During the last 10 years Siemens has developed a number of large complex systems for Medical Solutions, most of these were successful in the market. While all healthcare professionals share a passion for their job and would not hesitate to agree that the 'patient' is the center of their professional thinking, there are considerable differences among their roles. Based on our process of user experience design, we will characterize some of the core roles in the medical arena and provide guidelines on how to adjust to their specific backgrounds, tasks, responsibilities, and attitudes. With prevention becoming more and more important, we are also looking at the patient as a user in environments where s/he is acting outside of clinical settings, as well as situations when the computer is the main tool for interaction between professional and affected users and how data display can be optimized based on research in human perception.
